Organize Your Vehicle in 7 Easy Steps |

Whether you work out of your vehicle, travel frequently, or provide a taxi service for your children and their friends, your vehicle can very quickly become disorganized. Set aside a couple of hours and follow the tips below to quickly get your vehicle back in order.
- Empty - First, empty everything out of your vehicle, including CDs, DVDs, carseats, maps, scrapers, umbrellas, etc. Check your trunk, glove box, door pockets and other hidden storage compartments. You are sure to be amazed at what you find.
- Toss - Next, toss all of those old wrappers, papers and larger food particles that have dropped between the seats.
- Sort - Take a look at the remaining items. Are there any off-season items (like an ice scraper in the summer)? If so, store those in the garage. Are there items that belong somewhere else? Take those and put them away in your house or return them to their owner.
Cleaning - This is a great opportunity to give your vehicle a deep cleaning. I have found it helpful to first use an aerosol compressed gas duster in the cracks and crevices. Next, go from top to bottom, and clean the windows, then the console, steering wheel, air vents, cup holders and door pockets and finally the dreaded door interior (including the sideboards). Remove the floor mats from the vehicle and vacuum the seats, floor of the vehicle, and finally the mats.
- Deodorize - A product such as Febreeze is helpful, or simply a vehicle air deodorizer can work wonders.
- Analyze - Now it's time to load everything back in. All remaining items should be things you have chosen to store in your vehicle. Because we all use our vehicles differently, this next step will vary for each person. Ask yourself, "How do I use my vehicle?". Your answer to this question will help you determine where each item will be stored in your vehicle.
- Store - For the items you use most frequently, place them within arms reach. This could be in the center console, door pockets, or glove compartment. Keep your owner's manual, proof of insurance, and registration together in the glove compartment. Store larger things or items that see occasional use in your trunk. Use a crate or box to prevent these items from "wandering".
Now, take a drive with the windows rolled down and enjoy your clean and organized vehicle!
